Cannot create a quiesced snapshot of a virtual machine if Symantec BackupExec is installed within the virtual machine (2041719) | VMware KB

Symptoms

• Cannot create a snapshot that quiesces the filesystem of the guest operating system

• Creating a quiesced snapshot of the virtual machine fails

• The vSphere Client reports the error: The error code:5 :'VssSyncStart' operation failed: IDispatch error #8455 (0x80042307)

• Symantec VSS Provider and VMware VSS Provider are installed in the virtual machine

• The virtual machine event log reports warnings related to the BeVSSProvider

Cause

This occurs if you have installed multiple VSS providers that conflict with each other.
